Troy: Our Greatest Story Retold by Stephen Fry ![]() By far the very best of Fry’s Greek Myth’s stories. His retelling of Illiad+ is more cogent and more focussed than his broader works, in which he admits the names, and chronologies will baffle and befuddle most. They do. The tale of the personages surrounding the two sackings of Troy is a more focused tale and particularly well told with the always engaging Fry wit. The additional small essays on the factuality and context of the writing, recounting, and archaeological discovery are themselves particularly well delivered and an important part of the book itself. Review of Midnight at the Pera Palace
Using the Pera Palace (a special locality in a special metropolis), Charles King uses the hotel as a focus for an exploration of the birth of modern Istanbul. He tells a tale well and is an adept manager of tangents.
