Just a very quick data crunch and visualisation. In the Gentleman’s Book Club, everyone makes a suggestion on our next read and we democratically decide that read by each ranking our own preferences. The top book is our read. Throughout the 9 years of the GBC, we’ve amassed enough data to get a sense of who seems to share tastes in books.
To compile this I created the above matrix of each members average rating of each other members recommendations. I decided to try visualising this using a Chord diagram. Hovering over an arc connects two members and shows the average rating that that member has give to the other’s recommendations. The average rating is closest to the name of the member.
Does this work better than a matrix? Hmmm…jury is still out on that. Still tweaking, but it’s a work in progress.
