Report on Black Lamb and Grey Falcon

by Rebecca West

[As it evolved, this was a wonderfully substantive read and various members continued to read and enjoy over the next few months.]

Great to see you last night and thanks for a thoughtful discussion. Especial thanks to Joe for bringing along the great collection of travel photos from the places referenced in West’s work.
I am very glad to hear the appreciation of Black Lamb and Grey Falcon. Jim was particular to mention that it was of great benefit to try Robert Kaplan’s Balkan Ghosts to gain a quick appreciation of the area in question and the nature of a modern journey very much rooted in West’s own. As mentioned, the book is dense, but the sort of one that you can put aside for a while and easily return to. We all seem to be between 25-40% through and hopefully intend on enjoying it off and on over the next while.
Great travel talk last night so many thanks.
We agreed that the book for next month is Sebastian Barry’s The Temporary Gentleman.
