Report on the Indian Clerk

by David Leavitt

Thanks for coming out last night and appreciating such a fine evening. Mike, you were toasted in absentia. I write while things are still fresh and with rapidity as my wifi is up and down today on the ol’ Enterprise.

A good discussion (especially challenged by folks at different stages of appreciation) of the Indian Clerk. On quick reflect, it was a widely appreciated read by most and appealed on both an intellectual and personal level. I think I can safely say that it stretched all to discover areas of lesser familiarity – whether with pure math, the search for proof or of the lives of the many notables that were written into the Apostles. I found the prose myself a little gratuitous but the depth of description and creation of atmosphere around a fascinating time at Oxbridge was greatly appreciated by most. Marks ranged from a high of 8 to my own lesser ranking of 4-5. Although those present having not finished may have had certain aspects revealed during the discussion I think all, myself included, look forward to taking the time to finish the novel. Thanks to Joe for raising it for our consideration.
The next read chosen is:
An Officer and a Spy by Robert Harris (definitely available for Kindle download).
