Report on Harvest

by Jim Crace

Thanks for the meet last week. The discussion was great and quite pleased to see a very strong appreciation for Crace’s work. The general approbation seemed to be for a story well told. The detail was well appreciated with the only niggling complaints being a few little threads that seemed unresolved (why were the Master and Kent sharing a smile as they were observed riding away?) The sense of a compact tale told in a somewhat ambiguous setting in time an place was pointed out. I frankly was waiting to find out that it was modern day and this was some strange little instance stuck in an older time.
It was great to see how the nature of the story and setting though inspired further investigation into the nature of the commons.

The book chosen for the next study is ‘Lawrence in Arabia: War, Deceit and Imperial Folly and the Making of the Modern Middle East‘ by Scott Anderson. I do hope that you enjoy. I know I did.
