Up near the Hauptbahnhoff, are the big department stores in Munich. I really liked the Hertie. It was a block big and 5 stories of pure luxury. Especially the fourth floor, where I took these shots. To preface: model trains are very big in Munich. In fact at Hertie (which touts itself as the model train headquarters - which did seem more than a hollow marketing slogan) there are working model train dioramas in the store windows on the street and on each floor when you get off the escalator. When you reach the 4th floor, which has electronic devices, appliances, computers, toys and a cafeteria (what more could you want?), you are greeted by a huge model train diorama with 15 train sets running simultaneously. And does this attract crowds? Judge by the photo. I had to work my way in and then give up my place shortly thereafter. People stand around and watch these things go 'round and 'round and 'round again.

Further along on this floor are the tv's. Bloody impressive too. Half the sets are wide screen format and many are digital. The picture below shows a 52" flat screen, wall mountable plasma monitor. Only DM 30,000, but what a picture!
In fact, the Sony's and Grundigs, impressive in their capabilities were very reasonably priced. Very tempting, but hard to fit in a suitcase.
