Hello.
Having successfully completed my comprehensive exams in September 2005, I am currently in my third year of doctoral studies in the History Department at McMaster University. I am engaged in dissertation research on the proponents of alcohol in late nineteenth-century Ontario. I am also engaged as Teaching Assistant to Dr. Ruth Frager for 2TT3 Canadian History From 1885 to Present .
I am also a participant in the Text Analysis Portal for Research (TAPoR) at McMaster. I have constructed a series of recipes to help new and experienced users appreciate the some of the ways the TAPoR text analysis tools can be employed by users from diverse disciplines.
My M.A. work, portions of which you can explore in the research area of this site, concerned the nature of hotel proprietorship in late-nineteenth century Ontario.
To balance academic life, I am an épéeiste on the Varsity Fencing Team at McMaster University - now my third year. I am fortunate to have thoughtful instruction and continue to hone my skills. If I can just get past the priority thing and stop telegraphing my intentions with all these grandiose blade sweeps and circles. Point control!
What more to say?? I hope that you explore this site a little further and that perchance you find something of interest. Please feel free to get in touch. My contact info is listed in the Contact section and I can be reached at shawnday at mcmaster dot ca. By the way, the lower picture here is of me in 'the office' better known as my favourite cafe. In this cafe, the lovely Starbucks in downtown Basel ;-) What's that I am reading?...I think it was one of the TR biographies by Morris...The Rise of...I believe.
